The color palette for this walking stick was inspired by a bowl of coleslaw and is named appropriately. I looked at the mix of colors among the cabbage and carrots and thought that they went well together. I don’t remember how long it took me to decorate the stick but I worked on it over the course of a week.
I think the branch came from a willow tree and I got it from a neighbor who was renovating their backyard. This stick is wider in diameter than most of my other sticks and was difficult to carve at first. The wood was very absorbent compared to my other sticks and you can see how the ink from the Sharpie markers bled through the grain.
I used my Dremel tool to carve grooves throughout the stick and colored them in with a black Sharpie marker. There is one mistake near the bottom of the stick where I messed up the color pattern and used green when I should have used purple.
